Issue #98 – A respite from Hell
Hello Wonderful.
It’s difficult to write the newsletter today due to virulent fires which continue to ravage our state of California (and on the heels of hurricanes, floods, Puerto Rico, and the grisly Las Vegas shooting). Amy, a Napa resident, can’t move back to her house until further notice, and since the fires are only 5% contained, who knows if she’ll have a house to go back to. But, the one fact we can cling to is this: the people and creatures we love, along with the communities that nourish us, are what truly matter in this increasingly insane world. Today’s poignant illustration comes to us from our dear friend Annie Galvin at 3 Fish Studios. Today, she and her husband Eric are donating 100% of the sales from their I Love You California collection to those affected by the wildfires. And Dave Pell from NextDraft is matching whatever they raise.

The Lift — Uncertain times call for greater wisdom, compassion, and courage. This can be found in a pocket-sized collection of pithy and potent teachings from a beloved American Buddhist nun.The Pocket Pema Chödrön should help quell your anxiety. It also makes a great gift or deskside companion.
The Aid — Wonder where you can help those affected by the fires? Here’s a guide from our friends at 7×7.
The Distraction — Annie’s poppy illustration stands tall and proud like a Californian, which reminded us of the star-studded SNL skit The Californians. Fast forward to 3:21 when Bradley Cooper makes an entrance. We could all use a little levity right now.
