Reader Love for The What
Every week when we think about what to put in The What, we try to come up with a list that our own friends will find intriguing, helpful, and mildly entertaining. The What is founded on friendship and we hope to be a friend to you, dear reader, because we’re grateful that you open it every week. The digital landscape is often filled with lonely one-way streets but when we receive encouraging emails like these, it makes our job even more of a dream.

“The title is self explanatory! It’s the best of a little bit of everything to keep you in the know for your complete soul/life on a weekly basis. I love that it’s never the same topics and it’s always a little something to keep you on your toes.” – Julie T.

“I’m all the way out in Cape Town, South Africa, but you were a welcome surprise, since you first dropped into my inbox. I actually did mail a link of The What to my best friend in London a few weeks ago and it turns out that she’s been receiving your mails for a while too. We both work in Film and TV, which can be very insular, so I thought that, like me, she’d appreciate a condensed, weekly window to a world about books, music, food, cool gadgets and sometimes just a comfy blanket or spot of face yoga. Every time I open The What I find something that I love.” – Valerie R.
“The What is the inside scoop from people with discerning taste and a curious eye.” – Alexa B.
“It’s like an intimate what to do list from a good friend on any given topic. Like you know if you were to ask your friend what do like the five things I should do in any given category. And has that kind of intimate feel, almost conspiratorial, or like ‘tell ’em I sent you.'” – Brandi D.
“The What is fast, shorthand to where and what to do this particular week in the city chosen. Perfect cool friends shorthand.” – Sylvie C.
“I am fully enjoying your emails filled with fun hip spots. Not to mention the humor and connection that you share with us ladies:)” – Michelle B.
“Your content is great! It’s as if you are tailoring your list for me. I love it.” – Susan L.
“The What is a curation experience … I am a fan and I cannot wait for my email from The What team as there is nothing like it. Greetings from South Africa!” – Hendrik
“I am constantly weeding out all of the junk in my inbox but I can’t get enough of y’all!” – Kim G.
“The What is a compilation of expert picks or lists of “What I like now” curated by those with good taste. The readership experience is like listening in on your cooler, older sibling’s conversation with an artsy friend while at the coffee shop. You pretend like you are not listening but you are hanging on their every word, scratching down the great new wine they mention so you can remember to bring it to the hostess at your next get together or googling the new diet or fitness item so you can be the first of your friends to try it out or be able to say “yeah, I’ve heard of that.” – Laura S.
“Just a quick note to tell you how much I love you two! Just bought the Serum … started ordering from Hungryroot and took Stefan on a Valentine’s date to the Heatonist in Brooklyn –Sarah Elizabeth

“The What is a hip site for miscellaneous and very current info on what’s hot in food, drink, hang outs, arts, theatre, clothing … It’s like getting a cool blog from a girlfriend while she’s out and about. – Lisa V.
“What joy! What surprises! What hidden little gems! The clean format, links that work and lead to interesting and usable tidbits – all delightful!” – Deborah H.
“I absolutely LOVE The What and look forward to it landing in my in-box! I so appreciate all of the content you provide in one juicy email. As a busy lady who loves the finer things in life, it’s nice to open up your email, find great suggestions, learn about and get inspired by other incredible women (and sometimes men!) and just read about cool shit. I even splurged and bought myself a new Triangl swimsuit after reading a feature you had in an earlier swim issue this summer. Please keep doin’ what you’re doin’!” – Elizabeth R.
