Intern Journal
On my second day of work, I had the privilege and opportunity to have lunch with 20 influential What Women members. They ranged in age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, family make up, and much more. There were people I had met before, weirdly enough including my mom, and of course, those I had never met before. I quickly realized how the older generation is much better at socializing with those they had never met before, as I was anxious during the short socialization time that we had before lunch. As we sat down to lunch, Amy and Gina discussed our upcoming summit, and how they were going to use this time to learn about what their members wanted to learn and discuss at the summit.
ME!
Many women spoke, some more than others, and some women even shared personal stories about their family life, their children, their passions, their struggles, etc. As the youngest women there, by at least 20 years, I was very interested by the stories these women were sharing as my life is so different than every single one of theirs. I do not have children or a husband; I have no elderly parents that I am taking care of or life crisis that I am trying to manage. But what I do have, is the opportunity to live my life in the way that I want to. My story is still being written, and while so was every other women’s at that table, their pages were much more filled up than mine are. That lunch showed me that I am going to have a lot of different obstacles and challenges to deal with when I am older and a lot of different things to worry about, but what matters the most is to put my heart into everything that I do, and continuing to write the best story that I can.
