Our Friend of the Week - Leila Alpers Moore

We got to know Leila when she and her family showed up early to a Halloween party. She and GP chatted about books while rolling pigs in a blanket and it wasn't long before the two of them started trading must-read lists. Last winter they wrote Read 100 More Books This Year for the tW blog and since then they’ve nearly achieved their goal.

FRIEND OF THE WEEK: 11 QUESTIONS

1. Nickname: MOM! Just kidding. I don't have one...2. What’s your short story? I lived abroad as a kid and loved meeting new people and hearing their stories. I thought I'd do something that required me to travel when I became an adult, but I ended up a doctor. The most powerful thing in the world is having the trust of another person. It's the best job in the world - it's never boring, it's always relevant, and you meet great people every single day.3. What’s your jam? David Bowie's Queen Bitch. 4. What motivates you? I am motivated by veracity and bravery, both in myself and others.5. Who do you think you’d have great friend chemistry with? Marie Curie.6. What qualities do your favorite friends have in common? My favorite friends don't take themselves too seriously.7. What’s the smartest, most inspiring, awesome thing you’ve read, watched, or listened to? Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TED talk was pretty amazing.8. What whets your appetite? A book and a glass of wine can't be beat. 9. What’s next on your To Do List? Next on my To Do list is to start writing again - I wrote essays in medical school and have gotten out of the habit. 10. How are you friends with Gina + Amy? I met Amy through Gina, as I have met all wonderful folks in the past five years. I met Gina through our sons, who had the foresight and good sense to pick one another out on the schoolyard in kindergarten.11. What’s the single best piece of advice you’ve ever received? My dear friend Beth told me of returning from maternity leave after my first son was born: "Don't worry about being impaired and sleep deprived. You will be. The good news is that your 75% is still 120% of the average person, and nobody will notice but you." She was (mostly) right, and it's a good thing to know when you're having a bad day.
