The Ultimate Podcast Guide
By Editorial Intern Ellie RidgeWhat even is a Podcast? Who knows, am I right?JK. I know. It's like a radio show, but on an app on your phone (the app is called "Podcasts". It's purple. You still with me? Ok good). And good news, there's a million different podcasts out there, so you can pick one about whatever weird interests you have! Hot air balloons? Here ya go! Canine behavioral science? You know I gotcha! But that's also bad news, because what if you're not sure what you like? Where do you even start?!! But good news again, I'm here with a guide of the podcasts that I love (which you might love too, whatever, I don't know).2 Dope Queens - A comedy show hosted by the hilarious Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, recorded every week in NYC and featuring young edgy comics discussing sex, race, relationship, living in New York, and way more of course.Radio Lab - They call themselves a "show about curiosity". It's like 20 minutes of investigative journalism, about the most random topics, from reporting on an odd murder case, to explaining why a certain bug makes a certain mysterious sound. Warning, not all the topics are great... and this is just a personal thing, but the voices of all three hosts grate on me hardcore. This American Life - Hosted by Ira Glass (my one true luv), this is a podcast staple. It's different stories on a theme every week, and unlike the above, every week is a home run.RISK! - Hosted by Kevin Allison of the MTV comedy troupe The State, Risk! is a storytelling podcast for the most outlandish, outrageous, sad, or hilarious stories, stuff that's too shocking to be recorded anywhere else.Serial - The cultural phenomenon that swept the nation!!! Season 1 was the most popular podcast ever, I'm pretty sure. Sarah Koenig (the icon) tells the story of a murder from the 80s, week by week, interviewing the convicted murderer from jail, uncovering new information looked over by the jury... it's unlike other stories because it is literally still unfolding as the case continues to develop in real time. I know right?! I obviously Googled until 3AM every night doing my own sleuthing on this case.
