Our Friend of the Week - Miche Hoffer
Your City: Mountain View, CA (originally Stockholm)Miche’s What –“Stockholm. Most especially in the summer. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the people aren’t half bad (LOL).”
FRIEND OF THE WEEK: 11 QUESTIONSWEBSITE: MICHROFITFACEBOOK: @MICHROFIT
- Nickname Miche is my nickname but my wife met me as “Megaswede” as that was my alias online. She sometimes still uses it and others have picked it up.
- What’s your short story? I was happily plodding along, living and training with my national team (Sweden, where I am from) as a professional decathlete. My best friend introduced me to online dating back in 2000. It was not as popular or easy at that time. No camera phones, no face time. Attaching a photo to an email meant scanning a hard copy (if you had access to a scanner!). I found “Island girl” online by accident. She lived in Palo Alto, CA so not quite the recipe for a coffee meet-up. But, as fate would have it, 16 years later here I am with “Island girl” now with twin girls, and our fitness biz, MichRoFit. I'm still competing as a decathlete and actually won the silver medal at the 2015 masters world championships in Lyon, France.
- What’s your jam? “Hall of Fame” by The Script (featuring Wii.I.Am)
- What motivates you? Mattias Sunneborn. He is a Swedish track athlete, two years older than I am. Another one is Joy Upshaw, a US track athlete, also older than I am. Both are all-around great athletes and human beings. These are the types of people who are worthy of being called role models. Age has no bearing on one’s mindset and ability to keep pushing on to be the best one can be, at any age.
- Who do you think you’d have great friend chemistry with? Matt Damon.
- What qualities do your favorite friends have in common? Wit, intelligence, integrity, a positive outlook.
- What’s the smartest, most inspiring, awesome thing you’ve read, watching or listened to? The book called The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Left. What a fun book but also left me feeling so positive because the main character, even at 100 years old, is full of grit and life.
- What whets your appetite? I love sushi (Zuma in London, especially)! Hendricks Gin and Tonics on the weekends (on our porch with friends). A cold beer after a summer/hot day.
- What’s next on your To Do List? I want to have a cameo in a movie. But the more immediate one is to break the world record in my age group in Decathlon next year at the European Masters Championships (Denmark).
- How are you friends with Gina + Amy? The lovely ladies of Splendora days. I was one of the fitness trainers featured in their first calendar. So long ago but thankfully, stayed in touch. Gina and Amy have such flair and style – we have been supportive all of their endeavors.
- Who would you nominate for our next Friend of the Week? Definitely “Island Girl.” I am in awe of her (a full time job she rocks at Mozilla, fantastic mom to our girls and she inspires so many without even realizing it). She is a Dance Fitness instructor (teaches 3x a week), has style and grace, ran our MichRoFit biz for years and she makes being 52 something to look forward to.
