TW BOOK PICK - We Run The Tides by Vendela Vida
Vendela Vida is a TWA Ally and one of my dearest friends whom I met in 2007 at, of all godforsaken places, a Ladies Tea. That morning I had just finished reading (and was obsessed with) another excellent novel of hers "Let The Northern Lights Erase Your Name" and I was standing in a group of socialites when someone introduced me to Vendela.
"Vendela Vida?" I asked incredulously.
Vendela nodded. Impulsively, I launched into total fangirl mode waxing about how much I loved her book--her brilliantly spartan prose; her ability to deftly create dark, emotionally complex characters and set it in far-flung, frozen Lapland. After my panegyric which had silenced our circle I remember a few of the women standing with us turn to her and said, "Vendela, you wrote a book?" (this is how humble Vendela is--not a single self-promoting bone in her body). Mortified by my rapturous outburst, I tried to make a quick getaway but not before Vendela kindly asked what I did. I told her that I ran a site called Splendora then I skedaddled. By the time I got back to the office she had emailed into our info account to say how nice it was to meet me and to thank me for recommending her book in our newsletter. The rest is history.
We Run The Tides is set in the 80s in San Francisco's swanky Sea Cliff neighborhood and follows the trials and tribulations of teen girls who find themselves in the middle of an evolving mystery of lies, deception, betrayal, and eroding innocence. It's the perfect novel to cuddle up with as Summer turns to Fall. You will LOVE this book so please support Vendela. You can buy your copy from our favorite local bookseller, Green Apple Books.
